A sensory-friendly space designed to soothe, support, and embrace — born from dialogue and universal kindness.
Osaka, Japan — Yogibo Inc., creator of the ultra-comfortable “Sofas, Too comfy to leave” will introduce a unique Calm Down Room at Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai, offering a small but powerful space to ease sensory overload, anxiety, and stress.
Developed in close collaboration with medical professionals, neurodivergent individuals, and universal design experts, the space—dubbed the “One-Tatami Hug”—is crafted to deliver a deep sense of calm and reassurance within just 3.3 square meters (one tatami mat). Visitors will experience a gentle, cocoon-like environment that reflects Yogibo’s mission to promote inclusivity through comfort.
About Calm Down Rooms
A Calm Down Room is a quiet, sensory-sensitive space designed to help individuals regulate their emotions in overstimulating environments. These rooms are especially beneficial for people with autism, sensory processing challenges, or those experiencing mental or emotional stress.
Yogibo’s Role at Expo 2025
Yogibo has been selected to develop one of eight Calm Down Rooms planned across the Expo venue. With its expertise in comfort-driven design and rising adoption in therapeutic and educational environments, the brand aims to create a model space that can later be implemented in schools, hospitals, public facilities, and beyond.
Design Concept: “One-Tatami Hug”
Recognizing that every individual’s sensory needs are different, the space was designed around the concept of flexible comfort. Rather than enforcing a single solution, Yogibo prioritized adjustability and empathy—elements that emerged through extensive dialogue with people from diverse backgrounds, including:
-
Neurodivergent individuals
-
Clinical psychologists
-
Universal design consultants
-
Peer supporters and caregivers
This co-creation process led to the central theme:
“Not a perfect solution, but a space with room to adjust.”
By focusing on the feeling of being gently embraced—even in a compact footprint—Yogibo has redefined what it means to offer care in a physical space.
Toward a Kinder Society
Yogibo believes that these sensory-friendly spaces shouldn’t be the exception—they should become the norm. Whether in schools, workplaces, or transportation hubs, compact calm zones like the One-Tatami Hug can reduce everyday burdens and encourage fuller participation in society for everyone.
This initiative represents not just a showcase at Expo 2025, but a call to action: to rethink how we design spaces—with kindness, accessibility, and emotional well-being at the core.
